Five Things to Know About New Head of Service, Abel Enitan

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), with the appointment taking effect from August 27, 2026. He will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Here are five things to know about the new Head of Service

1. He is from Osun State
Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan is an indigene of Osun State. He was born on December 12, 1966, and began his education at Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan before proceeding to the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.

2. He has over seven years’ experience as a Permanent Secretary

Enitan is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served in the position for about seven years and seven months, giving him extensive experience in the administration of the federal government.

3. He has served in several strategic government institutions
Before his current posting, Enitan served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President. He currently serves in the Federal Ministry of Education.

4. He is a Finance and Public Policy expert
Enitan obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.

5. He said married with Children. He is expected to T to drive civil service reforms
As the new HOCSF, Enitan has been tasked by President Tinubu to consolidate ongoing reforms in the civil service, while promoting professionalism, efficiency and accountability.
