President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at a brief ceremony in the Presidential Villa.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, Information & Strategy said the swearing-in, witnessed by the ministers’ spouses and senior government officials, follows the resignations of former Power Minister Chief Adebayo Adelabu and Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political careers. The Senate confirmed both nominees on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, 60, hails from Ibadan, Oyo State. He is a fiscal, economic and institutional reform expert with over 35 years’ experience across public and private sectors.
He graduated with a First Class in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, holds an MBA from Switzerland, and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham.
Tegbe served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, leading presidential reform initiatives and strategy design for subnational governments. His portfolio includes fiscal policy restructuring work with the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, NERC, Nigeria Revenue Service, Shell, Huawei, GE, MTN, and Odu’a Group.
He inherits a power sector grappling with grid instability, tariff reforms, and transmission bottlenecks.
Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, from Igbagun, Kogi State, brings 35 years of diplomatic experience. He earned a First Class in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, winning the Dean’s Prize, and a distinction in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982, rose to Director, and served as Permanent Secretary from 2016 until retirement in August 2017. His postings included Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and his last foreign assignment as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi.
Before his appointment, he served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Chief of Staff’s office. He is a recipient of the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award and the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award.
Both ministers are expected to resume duties immediately as the administration pushes reforms in energy and foreign policy.
