APC postpones House of Rep primaries

The All Progressives Congress has postponed its House of Representatives primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections, fixing a new date for Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The ruling party announced the shift on Thursday in a statement issued in Abuja by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka. The exercise was earlier scheduled for a different date.

APC said all other primary election dates remain unchanged under the revised timetable.

According to the schedule, Senate primaries will hold on Monday, May 18, followed by State House of Assembly primaries on Wednesday, May 20. Governorship primaries are set for Thursday, May 21, while the presidential primary will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The party did not give reasons for the postponement. The adjustment comes as political activities within the APC intensify ahead of 2027.

Party officials said preparations for the remaining primaries remain on track and assured members and stakeholders that the process would proceed as planned.

Political observers say the primaries will be crucial in shaping the APC’s strategy and internal power structure ahead of the next general elections, with keen interest expected from aspirants seeking tickets across all levels
