YPP FCT Senatorial Candidate Pledges Voice for Marginalised Residents

Young Progressive Party, YPP, candidate for the 2027 FCT senatorial seat, Blessing Ufedojo Benyeogor, says she will prioritise marginalised residents, education, healthcare, and infrastructure if elected.

“I will be a voice for the voiceless in the FCT,” Benyeogor said after emerging as the party’s candidate. She attributed her decision to run to “governance gaps” affecting many Abuja residents.

Benyeogor criticised past senators for failing to fully represent ordinary constituents. She said lawmakers must focus on citizens’ welfare and hold the executive accountable on daily living issues.

Her legislative agenda, she stated, will target improved access to quality education and affordable healthcare. She noted that many residents cannot afford treatment even at federal hospitals and pledged to push policies that reduce drug costs and expand healthcare access for women and vulnerable groups.

The candidate also flagged poor drainage and sanitation challenges across parts of the FCT, saying infrastructure development will be central to her campaign.

On facing another female contender, Benyeogor said she is confident and will rely on grassroots mobilisation, especially among youths and women.

*YPP Confirms Consensus Choice*
FCT YPP Chairman, Hon. Abraham Simon Adedotun, said Benyeogor emerged through consensus after the party’s nomination exercise. He added that nomination could not be reopened after the deadline and Benyeogor met all requirements, including purchasing and submitting forms.

Adedotun described her as a committed party member and former state executive with strong understanding of FCT challenges. He said her emergence shows YPP’s commitment to youth participation and women’s inclusion in politics.

YPP North Central Women Leader, Hauwa Aruwan, urged women not to be underestimated in politics. “Leadership requires ideas and commitment, not gender,” she said, calling on female politicians to support one another and challenge stereotypes about women in leadership.
