Tinubu keeps mum on Recent School Abductions in Anniversary Broadcast

President Bola Tinubu did not address the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oyo and Borno states during his nationwide broadcast marking the third anniversary of his administration on Friday.

Students and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, were kidnapped from the Ahoro-Esinle community in Oriire LGA. In a separate incident, pupils of Musa Askira Primary School, also known as Mussa Askira Primary School in Askira/Uba LGA, Borno State, were abducted by suspected Boko Haram fighters from the Mussa Askira community in Askira/Uba LGA. Both incidents occurred two weeks ago. The victims remain in captivity.

Despite the fresh attacks and mounting public concern, Tinubu focused his anniversary address on security gains under his government.

He said “Security remains central to our national mission. Our Armed Forces and security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and oil thieves,”

“Security remains central to our national mission. Our Armed Forces and security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and oil thieves,” the President said. “We have made measurable progress. Many communities once overrun by violence are beginning to experience peace. Major highways and transport corridors are safer. Our security forces have intensified operations and are reclaiming control.”

He added: “Our Armed Forces and security agencies have intensified operations against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and oil thieves. We are improving coordination and investing in better equipment, training, and intelligence gathering. While challenges remain, I assure you that we will not relent until every Nigerian can live, work, and travel without fear.”

The omission drew criticism from parents, civil society groups, and education stakeholders, who argued that school abductions require direct presidential attention. Calls have increased for the federal government to outline specific measures to protect schools and secure the release of those still held captive.

No group has claimed responsibility for either abduction as of press time.
