INEC to continue with nationwide voters registration May 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the country, beginning Monday, May 11, 2026.

According to a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, on May 5, 2026, the exercise will run until Friday, July 10, 2026, providing another opportunity for eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.

INEC recalled that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on April 17, 2026, to enable the Commission to clean up the voters’ register following its publication for claims and objections by registrants.

According to the Commission, the final phase is targeted at citizens who have recently attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during the earlier phases of the exercise.

The Commission also advised registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal details to utilise the online portal or visit INEC offices at the state and local government levels nationwide.

INEC further announced that the display of the Register of Voters for claims and objections will take place from July 23 to July 29, 2026. The exercise, it noted, is a statutory requirement aimed at ensuring the accuracy, completeness and credibility of the voters’ register.

Reassuring Nigerians of its readiness, the Commission stated that all necessary arrangements have been concluded for a smooth and hitch-free exercise.

INEC, therefore, urged all eligible citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to register, emphasising that broad participation is essential to strengthening the country’s electoral process.
