Less than six months to the 2027 general elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 persons into key leadership positions across 10 Federal Government agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, appointed as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Under the new appointments, Fayose will chair the board of the Rural Electrification Agency alongside Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Makinta, who were named as members and non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Aliyu, and its three serving executive directors will remain on the board.
President Tinubu also appointed retired Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. Former Lagos lawmaker, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was named Secretary of the commission.
Other appointments into the commission include Ogbole Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Barde as commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively, while Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Iyabode (Kogi) were appointed as members.
In a related development, former Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, Tosin Adeyanju, was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The President also approved the appointment of Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and Anthony Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Julius Oloro was named Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), Kwara State, replacing A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
For the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Abdullahi Saidu was appointed Chairman, while Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Makama, Suleiman Gidado, Louis Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola were named as board members.
Shuni Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, succeeding Shu’aibu Aliyu, who was earlier redeployed to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF).
The President also appointed Gisaor Iorja as Executive Director, Finance, of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), replacing Mathias Byuan, who resigned to contest the Benue State governorship election. Iorja is an economist, legal scholar and Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
According to the Presidency, all the appointments take immediate effect.
