Troops of Operation Safe Haven, OPSH, have rescued six travellers abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sanyin road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when armed men reportedly stopped a vehicle carrying passengers from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Jos, the Plateau capital, and abducted all occupants.
Confirming the rescue, OPSH Media Information Officer, Captain Polycarp Oteh, said troops under Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace, responded swiftly after receiving a distress report.
“On arrival at the scene, the troops discovered an ash-coloured Honda vehicle abandoned by the roadside, with its occupants missing,” Oteh stated. “The troops immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding bushes and succeeded in rescuing six victims.”
The rescued travellers were recovered from nearby bushes where the kidnappers had reportedly taken them.
Captain Oteh added that search operations are ongoing to locate the driver, who remains unaccounted for. Troops have sustained patrols and clearance operations in the area to track the abductors and prevent further attacks.
He assured residents and motorists that security forces “are fully in control of the situation and working tirelessly to ensure safety on the roads.”
