Police Debunk Kidnap Report at Gbagalape School in FCT After Panic Over ‘Kidnappers’ Shout

The FCT Police Command has debunked reports of a bandit attack and mass abduction at Gbagalape Secondary School in Nyanya, saying no kidnapping occurred and no victim was found after a thorough search.

The clarification followed viral reports Thursday that gunmen stormed the school around 12 p.m., shooting sporadically and abducting an undisclosed number of students and teachers. Eyewitnesses and local sources had said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, overpowered security, and fled into nearby bushes, triggering panic as parents rushed to the school.

According to a statement by FCT Police PPRO, SP Josephine Adeh, officers from Nyanya Division received a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. alleging an ongoing kidnapping at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape.

“The DPO, Nyanya Division, immediately mobilized officers and surveillance teams to the scene,” Adeh said. “Preliminary investigations revealed that students had suddenly started shouting ‘kidnappers’ and running out of the school premises, creating panic among teachers and members of the community.”

Police said the school was cordoned off and searched extensively. “No kidnapping incident was established, no suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified. Surrounding hills, boundaries, adjoining areas and nearby schools were also patrolled as precautionary measures,” the statement added.

The Command urged residents to “remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic and tension within communities.”

CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, FCT Commissioner of Police, encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913, 07057337653.

The false alarm comes amid growing concerns over school attacks in Nigeria’s North-Central region and FCT satellite towns. Nyanya and neighbouring areas have seen increased bandit activity in recent months, heightening tension whenever reports of abductions surface.

Police said investigations continue, but as of 4th June 2026, there is no evidence of an abduction at Gbagalape school.

_This story will be updated if new facts emerge from security agencies or school authorities. However, FirmNews reliably gathered that there’s panic around the axis because of the incident.
