Just In: Iran Fires Missiles in First Major Strike Since April Ceasefire

Iran launched missiles overnight in the first bombardment of its kind since a fragile ceasefire began in early April, Iranian media reported.

Tehran had warned of retaliation after Israel struck Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday. That strike ignored a recent request from Washington for both sides to stand down. Israel said it was responding to rocket fire from Hezbollah into northern Israel earlier that day.

The Beirut attack came days after Lebanon and Israel agreed to a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Hezbollah rejected the deal. The Israeli strike hit a residential building, killing 2 people and injuring 20, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

The missile launch marks the first major breach of the April truce and raises fresh concerns about escalation between Iran and Israel.
