Kogi West Senator Abubakar Zakari Signals 2027 Re-Election Bid

Senator Abubakar Zakari, representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, has indicated interest in contesting the 2027 senatorial election.

The lawmaker made this known when he spoke to journalists yesterday in Abuja saying he remains committed to advancing the interests of Kogi West constituents and building on ongoing legislative efforts.

Zakari, who currently serves in the 10th Senate, said his decision is driven by the need to sustain development projects and ensure stronger federal representation for the senatorial district. He added that consultations with community leaders, youth groups, and party members across the seven local government areas of Kogi West are ongoing.

“I am grateful for the trust and support of the people of Kogi West. If the opportunity comes, I will continue to serve and deliver on the mandate they have given me,” Zakari said.

He noted that his focus would remain on infrastructure, education, and empowerment programmes if re-elected.

Political observers say Zakari’s early declaration sets the tone for what is expected to be a competitive race in 2027, as other aspirants within the district begin to position themselves ahead of party primaries.

The Kogi West senatorial district comprises Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Yagba East, Yagba West, Kogi, and Mopamuro local government areas.
