The Federal Ministry of Finance has begun a leadership transition with Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, FCNA, assuming duties as Acting Permanent Secretary following the retirement of Raymond Omenka Omachi from the Federal Civil Service.

Omachi retired on October 26, 2026, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60, with the formal handover taking place during a ceremony at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, October 27.

Danjuma, in his first remarks as Acting Permanent Secretary, pledged to sustain the Ministry’s administrative operations while strengthening professionalism, accountability and teamwork in the discharge of its responsibilities.

He emphasised the need for continuity in the Ministry’s operations, noting that effective communication, adherence to due process and prudent management of resources were critical to achieving institutional goals.

The new Acting Permanent Secretary expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for the opportunity to serve.

He also acknowledged the support of the Ministry’s management and staff, urging them to maintain their commitment to effective service delivery and work collectively towards measurable results.

Danjuma paid tribute to his predecessor, commending Omachi for his contributions to the Ministry and urging staff to sustain the cooperation and dedication needed to advance its mandate.

In his valedictory address, Omachi reflected on his career in the Federal Civil Service, describing his retirement as an emotional occasion marked by relationships, shared experiences and professional accomplishments.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Oyedele and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for their support throughout his career, while acknowledging the contributions of colleagues and staff to his years of service.

Omachi urged civil servants to remain committed to their duties, uphold the values of the Civil Service and continue to place national interest above personal considerations.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry’s management and workforce, the Director of Human Resource Management, Aderonke Jaiyesimi, commended the retiring Permanent Secretary for his service and contributions to the institution.

Jaiyesimi conveyed the staff’s appreciation for Omachi’s years of service and wished him good health, peace and fulfilment in retirement.

The ceremony featured tributes from colleagues and other members of the Ministry, celebrating Omachi’s career and wishing him success in the next phase of his life.

The event concluded with the cutting of a retirement cake in honour of Omachi’s retirement and 60th birthday.

The transition marks the beginning of Danjuma’s tenure in an acting capacity, with expectations that the Ministry’s administrative responsibilities will continue without disruption.
