The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Resident Representative in Guinea-Bissau, Ambassador Ngozi Ukaeje, has led a breast cancer awareness campaign to promote early detection and preventive healthcare among residents.
The campaign, organised by the Office of the ECOWAS Resident Representative in collaboration with troops of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), was held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Kwame Nkrumah Secondary School in Bissau.
The initiative formed part of activities marking the 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with a focus on educating the public about breast cancer, encouraging early detection and promoting healthy practices.
The campaign, themed “Every Story Matters; Every Journey Is Unique,” also sought to strengthen civil-military relations through community engagement and increased awareness of public health issues.
Speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, Ambassador Ukaeje, who is the ECOWAS Resident Representative and Head of Mission in Guinea-Bissau, expressed delight at participating in the campaign.
She commended her office and other organisers for their commitment to promoting public health awareness and supporting initiatives aimed at improving community well-being.
The campaign underscored the importance of sustained public education on breast cancer, particularly the need for early detection and preventive measures in reducing the impact of the disease.
