The Benin Summit Group, led by Earl Osaro Onaiwu, has called on the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to urgently resolve its ongoing industrial dispute with workers and restore stable electricity supply across Edo State.
The group expressed concern that the dispute had disrupted power supply, causing hardship for residents and businesses across the state.
In a statement signed by Onaiwu, Chairman in Council of the Benin Summit Group, the organisation acknowledged the importance of workers’ welfare and fair treatment but stressed that electricity consumers should not continue to suffer the consequences of unresolved disagreements between the company’s management and its workforce.
The group urged BEDC management and relevant labour representatives to intensify negotiations, address outstanding welfare concerns and reach an agreement that would facilitate the prompt restoration of electricity supply.
It also called on the Edo State Government and relevant regulatory authorities to sustain their intervention in the dispute and ensure that the concerns of electricity consumers receive adequate attention.
According to the group, reliable electricity supply remains essential to economic activities, business growth and the overall well-being of residents.
It further urged BEDC to demonstrate greater responsibility by improving communication with consumers and taking practical steps to address persistent concerns about its service delivery.
The Benin Summit Group emphasised that the dispute should be treated with the urgency it deserves, noting that a lasting resolution must protect workers’ welfare while reducing the hardship imposed on residents and businesses.
The group appealed to all parties involved to prioritise dialogue and reach a mutually acceptable agreement in the interest of workers, consumers and the wider Edo State economy.
