The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, has congratulated the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, OFR, on the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degree on him by Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti.
In a congratulatory letter dated October 22, 2026, Obegolu described the honour as a well-deserved recognition of Okonkwo’s contributions to education, aviation, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and national development.
The ACCI president also commended Okonkwo for delivering the university’s 14th Convocation Lecture, titled “Functional Education and the Nigerian Project: Strategic Human Capital Development for National Renewal.”
He noted that the lecture addressed a critical national issue and underscored the importance of investing in human capital as a foundation for sustainable development.
Obegolu observed that Okonkwo’s accomplishments as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and pioneer in Nigeria’s aviation industry demonstrated that effective business leadership goes beyond commercial success to include social responsibility and contributions to national progress.
According to him, the honorary doctorate recognises Okonkwo’s distinguished record of enterprise, service and commitment to advancing key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
He expressed confidence that the recognition would further inspire the airline executive to deepen his contributions to education, strengthen the aviation industry and support Nigeria’s broader development agenda.
The ACCI president wished Okonkwo continued success and greater accomplishments, expressing optimism that he would sustain his efforts towards improving lives and promoting national development.
The congratulatory message, according to the chamber, reflects its recognition of business leaders whose achievements extend beyond their organisations to encompass education, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and the wider economy.
