The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board has honoured 83 community health volunteers for their contributions to improving access to maternal and child healthcare services across the state in 2025.
The award ceremony, held on Thursday, was organised by the board in collaboration with the Bauchi State Emirate Councils Committee on Health and Mobilisation (BASECCOH).
The award recipients comprised 48 ward heads selected from across the state’s emirates and chiefdoms, 20 members of the Mama2Mama community resource group, and 15 agents of the Community Reorientation Women Network (CRoWN).

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, said the recognition was aimed at appreciating the volunteers for their dedication to improving access to essential healthcare services at the grassroots.
He commended the recipients for their contributions to increasing the uptake of antenatal care, skilled delivery and postnatal services, noting that they had continued to serve their communities without receiving stipends.
Mohammed said their commitment had contributed to efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes across Bauchi State.
He emphasised the importance of community participation in strengthening primary healthcare delivery, particularly in reaching women, children and other vulnerable groups.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dass and Co-chairman of the State Taskforce on Primary Healthcare, HRH Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, reaffirmed the commitment of traditional institutions to supporting grassroots health initiatives.

He said traditional rulers would continue to mobilise communities to participate in immunisation programmes and maternal and child healthcare interventions.
According to him, sustained collaboration between traditional institutions and health authorities remains essential to expanding healthcare access and achieving Universal Health Coverage.
The recognition of the volunteers underscores the importance of community-based participation in promoting healthcare awareness, encouraging the use of essential health services and strengthening primary healthcare delivery across Bauchi State.
