The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has pledged the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) full support for the Federal Government’s ambition to grow Nigeria’s economy to $1 trillion.
Adeniyi made the commitment on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, while delivering a keynote address at the New Nigeria Festival held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Conference Hall in Abuja.
He said the $1 trillion economic target was achievable, provided the strategies and plans designed to attain it were effectively implemented.
According to him, the NCS has moved beyond policy discussions to concrete actions aimed at supporting the country’s economic growth, particularly through its ongoing modernisation reforms.
He identified the deployment of B’Odogwu, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme and the Advance Ruling mechanism as some of the initiatives introduced by the Service to facilitate legitimate trade, enhance predictability in the business environment and strengthen revenue generation.
“Execution is nothing if it is not concrete. We have to move from ideas to action and ensure that whatever we plan translates into results. That is how we can begin to see the kind of transformation we are talking about,” Adeniyi said.
The Customs boss stressed that achieving the $1 trillion economy could not be the responsibility of government agencies alone, noting that it required the collective commitment of institutions, businesses and citizens.
He said the NCS, given its responsibilities for revenue collection, trade facilitation and border management, was strategically positioned to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
Adeniyi therefore called for greater emphasis on implementation, urging institutions and citizens to take ownership of their respective responsibilities and translate national economic plans into practical and measurable outcomes.
