Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, on Thursday led residents of the state in commemorating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the creation of Nasarawa State.
The joint celebration, held in Lafia, the state capital, featured a colourful parade and march-past involving personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, civil servants and other paramilitary agencies.

Governor Sule inspected the parade as the state joined the rest of the country to mark six decades and six years of Nigeria’s independence and three decades of Nasarawa State’s existence.
In his anniversary remarks, the governor paid tribute to successive administrations and past leaders for their contributions to the development of Nasarawa State.
He acknowledged the sacrifices and efforts of the state’s founding leaders and his predecessors, noting that their contributions had helped lay the foundation upon which the state has continued to build over the past 30 years.

Sule said the anniversary provided an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the journey of both Nigeria and Nasarawa State, assess achievements recorded over the years and draw lessons for the future.
He emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining peace, unity and development, while recognising the contributions of citizens and successive administrations to the growth of the state.
The governor congratulated Nigerians and the people of Nasarawa State on the two historic anniversaries, urging them to remain committed to the ideals of peace, unity, development and collective progress.

The celebrations, he said, should serve as a reminder of the sacrifices of the past while inspiring renewed efforts towards building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria and Nasarawa State.
