By Terdue Atondu, Makurdi

The Benue State Police Command has presented insurance cheques to the families of deceased police officers as part of efforts to support dependants of personnel who lost their lives in the course of duty.

The cheques were presented on Tuesday at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi by the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Cletus C. Nwadiobu, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, and made available to journalists, the Commissioner conveyed the warm regards and condolences of the Inspector-General of Police to the bereaved families.

Nwadiobu acknowledged that no amount of financial assistance could adequately compensate for the loss of a loved one, but said the insurance benefits were intended to provide relief and support to the affected families.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously, particularly to meet immediate needs and cater for the welfare and education of the children and other dependants of the deceased officers.

The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families, assuring that it would continue to support initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at assisting officers and families affected by loss in the course of service.
