The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has charged its newly recruited officers to uphold integrity, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, gave the charge on Monday at the opening of a five-day sensitisation and capacity-building workshop organised by the Commission’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) for newly recruited staff.
The workshop, which is being held from September 14 to 18, 2026, at Bafra Hotel, Kaduna State, is organised in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Represented at the event by the Federal Commissioner representing Kwara State and Provost of ACTU, Hon. Ismail Muhammed Agaka, Shehu said the sensitive role of RMAFC in Nigeria’s fiscal governance demanded a high level of professionalism, competence and ethical conduct from its officers.
He said public confidence in government institutions could only be sustained when public officers performed their duties honestly, transparently and responsibly.
Shehu stressed that the fight against corruption was a collective responsibility and should not be left to the ACTU or ICPC alone.
According to him, every public officer must take personal responsibility for ensuring that government decisions, processes and resources are handled in accordance with the law.
“Every decision we take, every public resource we handle and every official process we undertake must withstand the tests of legality, accountability, fairness and transparency,” he said.
The RMAFC chairman warned that corruption went beyond bribery and diversion of public funds, noting that it could also take the form of abuse of office, conflict of interest, favouritism, manipulation of official processes and deliberate disregard for established rules.
He urged the officers to make integrity a daily practice and ensure that their conduct, decisions and interactions with the public reflected the values of the public service.
“As officers of the Commission, we must be above reproach. Let integrity guide our decisions, accountability define our actions, and service to the Nation remain our overriding commitment,” Shehu said.
He encouraged the participants to actively engage with the resource persons and apply the knowledge acquired during the programme to improve service delivery in their respective offices.
Also speaking, the Chairman of RMAFC ACTU, Dr. Idris Musa, described the fight against corruption as a shared responsibility requiring the commitment of every public servant.
Musa urged the participants to shun practices capable of eroding public confidence in government institutions and to maintain transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
He specifically warned against abuse of office, conflict of interest, favouritism, manipulation of official procedures and disregard for established rules.
The ICPC representative at the event, Dr. Anike Adeshina, Assistant Director, Public Education, said the training formed part of efforts to build a culture of ethical and responsible conduct among public servants.
Adeshina said the programme was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of laws, regulations, procedures and ethical standards guiding government business.
She urged the newly recruited officers to protect the integrity of their workplaces and reject practices inconsistent with the ethics of public service.
Some participants expressed optimism that the training would enhance their professional competence and ethical conduct.
An Accountant at the RMAFC Zamfara State office, Aminu Sani, said the programme would provide him with additional knowledge and experience to perform his duties more effectively.
Similarly, Aminu Ibrahim Imam, a Manager and Chartered Accountant in the Audit Department, identified transparency, accountability and integrity as essential values for RMAFC personnel, given the Commission’s crucial role in the mobilisation and allocation of Nigeria’s revenue.
