Ehusan: Fix Insecurity, Not Palliatives, to Reduce Poverty in Nigeria

The Executive Director of the Lux Terra Leadership Foundation, Rev. Fr. George Ehusan, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise the fight against insecurity as a key strategy for reducing poverty in Nigeria.

Fr. Ehusan while  speaking on Arisetv said Nigerians do not need palliatives but an environment that enables them to work, create wealth and provide for themselves.

Speaking on the country’s economic challenges, he described the continued distribution of palliatives to Nigerians as an “insult,” stressing that insecurity remains a major obstacle to economic productivity.

“If the government wants to reduce poverty, they need to fix insecurity. Nigerians are not asking for palliatives; it is an insult,” he said.

The cleric maintained that Nigerians are hardworking and innovative and only require adequate security and access to affordable basic utilities to thrive.

According to him, government should focus on creating the right conditions for citizens to be productive rather than relying on temporary interventions.

“Nigerians are hard-working and creative people; they can take care of themselves. All they need is to provide security and ensure utilities are not beyond their reach,” Ehusan said.

He called on the government to intensify efforts to address insecurity and make essential services affordable, saying such measures would help Nigerians become self-reliant and contribute more meaningfully to the economy.
