The number of terrorists and their associates surrendering to troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has increased by 213 per cent in the past one week following sustained military operations across the North-East Theatre.
The Theatre Command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the surge followed intensified ground operations, engagements against terrorist positions and disruption of logistics and supply routes.
According to the statement, the sustained pressure has continued to weaken the operational capabilities of terrorist elements and restrict their freedom of movement across the theatre.
The command said the development reflected a growing number of terrorist fighters and associates abandoning violent activities and submitting to established surrender procedures.
It disclosed that two high-profile terrorist members surrendered to troops on Wednesday, bringing with them arms, ammunition and other military equipment.
The recovery of the weapons, the command said, further indicated the impact of sustained military pressure on the cohesion, morale and operational capacity of terrorist groups.
The statement added that other terrorists surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama on August 7, 2026, at New Abaram, following sustained military operations and internal disagreements within their enclave.
The surrendered individuals were screened, while mobile phones and other items were recovered before they were handed over for further action in line with established procedures.
The Theatre Command said the increasing frequency of surrenders demonstrated the impact of its multi-dimensional strategy, combining offensive ground operations, precision engagements and disruption of terrorist logistics and supply networks.
It said the strategy was denying terrorists the ability to manoeuvre freely, regroup and replenish their resources, thereby undermining their capacity to sustain prolonged operations.
The command described the rising surrenders as evidence of the cumulative effect of sustained military pressure and the gradual erosion of terrorist capability, cohesion and morale.
“Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in sustaining legitimate military pressure against terrorist elements while providing appropriate channels for those who elect to surrender,” the statement said.
The command reaffirmed that its objective remained to degrade terrorist capabilities, restore security and create conditions for lasting peace and stability across the North-East.
It also urged members of the public to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
The command further called on terrorists and their associates to abandon violence and make use of available surrender channels.
