PDP Mourns With Amaechi Over Mother’s Death, Calls for Opposition Unity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed condolences to the Vice Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Amaechi.

The party’s National Chairman of the Interim National Working Committee, Kabiru Turaki, led a delegation of party leaders on a condolence visit to Amaechi’s Abuja residence on Tuesday.
Speaking during the visit, Turaki described the loss of a mother as a painful experience, noting that no one is ever fully prepared for the death of a parent.

He said the PDP, under whose platform Amaechi served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and later as governor, shared in the family’s grief and urged him to remain strong, describing death as an inevitable passage to immortality.

Responding, Amaechi thanked the PDP leadership for the visit and their words of comfort. He reflected on the sacrifices made by his parents, particularly his late mother, in raising him and his siblings.

The former governor also commended the Turaki-led PDP for what he described as its resilience and commitment to defending Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.

Amaechi stressed that greater unity among opposition parties remains the only viable path to defeating President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the next general election.

He urged opposition leaders to continue exploring avenues for cooperation ahead of the polls, warning that failure to unite could hand the incumbent an easy return to power.

The delegation included National Secretary Wonyengikuro Daniel, Deputy National Secretary Richard Ihediwa, National Treasurer Isa Abubakar, National Organising Secretary Theophilus Dakas Shan, Kebbi State governorship candidate Abdullahi Ibrahim, and National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong.
