The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Stephen Dami Mamza, has accused the Federal Government of failing to show the political will required to end Nigeria’s persistent insecurity.
Bishop Mamza spoke with journalists in Yola, Adamawa State, after presiding over the closing Mass of the 2026 Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council.
He decried ongoing killings, kidnappings, banditry and attacks on communities, noting that many Nigerians now live in fear and uncertainty.
“Despite repeated assurances by government officials, the country’s security situation has shown little improvement, raising concerns about the commitment of those responsible for protecting lives and property,” the bishop said.
“The government must go beyond promises and take decisive action to address the security challenges confronting the nation. The safety of citizens should remain the foremost responsibility of any administration,” he added.
Bishop Mamza called for stronger intelligence gathering, improved welfare for security personnel, and better collaboration among security agencies to curb criminal activities.
He urged Nigerians to keep praying for peace while supporting lawful efforts to restore security and national unity.
The 2026 Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council brought together priests, religious and lay representatives from across the diocese to review Church activities and discuss issues affecting both the Church and the nation.

Well spoken my lord
