According to the Public Security Directorate, PSD, heavy congestion and sudden crowd movement triggered a crush that caused multiple casualties.
Emergency crews rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. One victim later died from injuries sustained in the stampede. The PSD said the other eight suffered minor to moderate injuries and were receiving treatment.
Jordanian authorities have opened an investigation. Forensic experts will determine the cause of death while security agencies review the sequence of events. The PSD has not yet said whether overcrowding, poor crowd control, or other factors were to blame.
