Atiku Wins ADC Presidential Ticket, Defeats Amaechi and Hayatudeen

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the African Democratic Congress [ADC] presidential candidate after winning the party’s primary election in Abuja.

The results were announced late Wednesday at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel. Returning officer Tunde Ogbeha declared Atiku the winner after the final collation.Atiku polled 1,846,370 votes, ahead of former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi with 504,117 votes.

Former FSB International Bank Managing Director Mohammed Hayatudeen got 177,120 votes.The outcome positions Atiku to run on the ADC platform in the next presidential election. Party members and supporters celebrated the result, with some saying it strengthens the ADC’s chances in the general election.Amaechi and Hayatudeen had campaigned on a platform of a new direction for the party

. Political observers say Atiku’s margin of victory signals strong support within the ADC structure and could shape political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
