Former President Goodluck Jonathan has confirmed he will attend the Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference in Abuja on May 20, 2026, where he will receive the DICAN International Award for Statesmanship and Global Peace.
The conference, themed _“Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media,”_ will hold at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Jonathan said he accepted the honour from the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) based on the credibility of the platform. The award recognizes his contributions to democracy and peace across Africa.
The former president is scheduled to address the assembly on global peace and security, focusing on challenges posed by Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) and disinformation.
DICAN Chairman Idehai Frederick said Jonathan’s participation adds weight to the global conversation.
“President Goodluck Jonathan’s acceptance of this award and his decision to address the assembly underscores the immense credibility of this platform,” Frederick said. “His enduring legacy as a champion of Nigeria, African and global democracy makes him the definitive voice to speak on safeguarding global peace against the tide of disinformation.”
The summit is organized with the Centre for Communications, Development, and Diplomacy in Africa. It is expected to draw over 100 diplomatic missions, including Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Secretary Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, and the ambassadors of the U.S., China, Spain, and the EU. Security and intelligence agencies, corporate leaders, UN bodies, and civil society groups will also attend.
Frederick urged stakeholders to treat information warfare as a critical global priority.
“Information warfare is a direct threat to global stability, trade, and democratic institutions,” he said. “We must emerge from the conference with a unified, collaborative strategy for the ultimate good of the world.”
The event will launch a global campaign against FIMI, fake news, and disinformation. Keynote messages will be delivered by Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu; Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe, Registrar General of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria; and Nonye Ayeni, Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.
The conference will close with an awards ceremony recognizing institutions and individuals for outstanding service, including domestic airline Air Peace.
