RMAFC Chairman praises Tanimu Aliyu’s Legacy of Discipline and Excellence

The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, has described outgoing Director of Fiscal Efficiency, Dr. Tanimu Adamu Aliyu, as one of the finest and most accomplished directors to have served the commission.

Shehu made the remarks at a send-forth ceremony held in Aliyu’s honour at RMAFC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, 14 March 2026.

“Dr. Tanimu Adamu Aliyu is one of the best directors we have ever had in this Commission. He is highly knowledgeable, disciplined, and deeply committed to excellence. Nigeria is proud of his service to the nation, and the Commission is proud of his remarkable contributions,” Shehu said.

The chairman noted that Aliyu’s strict and principled approach to work earned him respect across the commission, even if it did not make him popular with everyone.

“He may not have been liked by everyone because he is very strict and straightforward, but that is precisely what made him outstanding. He had zero tolerance for mediocrity and always insisted on doing things the right way,” he said.

Shehu also commended Aliyu for pursuing further academic qualifications, including a doctorate degree, while in service. He urged other staff to emulate the example by continuing their professional development.

“When you engage Dr. Tanimu, you immediately recognize that you are speaking with someone who is exceptionally well informed and intellectually grounded,” Shehu said.

Expressing confidence in Aliyu’s future, the chairman said he believed the outgoing director could return to serve in higher capacity.

“I will not be surprised if he returns to this Commission as a Federal Commissioner or even as Chairman. He has the competence, the experience, and the leadership qualities to serve Nigeria at the highest levels,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the federal commissioners, Hon. Ozo Obodougo Obumneme, Federal Commissioner for Enugu State and Chairman of the Customs Monitoring Committee, described Aliyu as a disciplined, principled and intellectually gifted officer whose commitment to excellence had left an enduring legacy.

“His contributions to the Commission and to national development are worthy of commendation, and we are confident that he will continue to excel in all his future endeavours,” Obumneme said.

Federal commissioners present included Hon. Abdulazeez Idris King of Kogi State, Hon. Muhammed Kabeer Usman of Gombe State, Kabir Muhammad Mashi of Katsina State, and Hon. Nduka Henry Awuregu of Ebonyi State.

Management and staff also delivered goodwill messages, describing Aliyu as a consummate professional, mentor and exemplary public servant.

In his response, Aliyu thanked the chairman, commissioners, management and staff for the honour.

“Serving the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional life. I thank the Chairman for his support and leadership, and I appreciate my colleagues for the cooperation and friendship we shared over the years,” he said.

Aliyu said his achievements were made possible through teamwork and dedication to the commission’s mandate, adding that he would continue to support RMAFC and the country in the next chapter of his career.
