Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports that President Bola Tinubu won over 10 million votes in the All Progressives Congress [APC] presidential primary held over the weekend.

APC officials announced that Tinubu secured 10,999,160 votes to clinch the party’s ticket for the 2027 election. Speaking to journalists after voting in the African Democratic Congress [ADC] presidential primary at Ajiya Ward, Yola North LGA, Adamawa State, Atiku said the figures were fabricated.

“It is a lie. The figures were merely written,” he said.

Atiku urged Nigerians to disregard the APC primary outcome and said the 2027 general election should be used to remove the ruling party from power. He accused the Tinubu administration of poor governance and failing to ease the hardship facing millions of Nigerians. According to him, the rising cost of living and economic difficulties continue to strain families nationwide.

On the ADC primary, Atiku said the large turnout, especially of young people, was a positive sign for the party.

“It is encouraging to see the large number of people gathered here for this exercise, especially the youths. Whenever young people embrace something, it shows that it is worthwhile and beneficial to them and their families,” he said.

Asked if internal issues within the ADC could affect his chances if he becomes the party’s candidate, Atiku said he was confident.

“We are confident. We do not see any challenge that will stop us from achieving what we set out to do,” he stated.

He called on Nigerians to back the ADC in future elections, saying, “My message to Nigerians is to vote for the ADC. Any other party aside from the ADC will only worsen their hardship.”
