Dr. Azeez Adeduntan Joins Oyo Gubernatorial Race Under ADC, Pledges Infrastructure Development

Medical practitioner and public health expert Dr. Azeez Adeduntan has formally joined the race for the Oyo State governorship under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), vowing to prioritize infrastructure development if elected.

Adeduntan, who made the declaration during an interview with newmwn while collecting his interest form at ADC headquarters Abuja on Friday.

He said his decision to run was driven by the need to address gaps in roads, healthcare facilities, water supply, and education across the state.

“Oyo State deserves a government that delivers tangible development to every zone, not just the urban centres,” he said. “My administration will focus on building and rehabilitating critical infrastructure to drive economic growth and improve living standards.”

The ADC governorship aspirant outlined plans to partner with the private sector and development agencies to fund projects, while ensuring transparency and accountability in public spending. He also emphasized improving rural-urban connectivity and upgrading primary healthcare and school facilities.

Adeduntan previously served as Commissioner for Health in Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde, before resigning in 2022. He is now seeking to translate his experience in public administration and healthcare into broader governance.

The ADC in Oyo State welcomed his entry, describing it as a boost to the party’s chances in the 2027 gubernatorial election. Party officials said Adeduntan’s background and name recognition position him as a strong contender.

Political observers note that infrastructure has remained a key campaign issue in Oyo, with voters in rural areas frequently citing poor roads and limited access to basic services as priorities.

Adeduntan joins a growing list of aspirants eyeing the Agodi Government House ahead of the 2027 elections. He said he would soon unveil a detailed policy document covering education, agriculture, youth employment, and economic diversification.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has not yet released the timetable for the 2027 governorship elections.
