…Al-Makura’s Renewed Hope Vanguard Members Allegedly Linked to Violence Against Sule, APC Leaders
Political tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has intensified following the disruption of the party’s presidential campaign rally in Lafia, with former Governor and Senator, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, facing allegations over the activities of a political group associated with him.
The Nasarawa State Government has condemned the incident and called on security agencies to investigate the alleged involvement of some youths who reportedly booed and pelted Governor Abdullahi Sule and other senior APC officials with stones during the event.
The disruption occurred on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during the APC presidential campaign rally attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Shuaibu Magaji Labaran, the government described the incident as an act of recklessness and deliberate disregard for constituted authority.
The government alleged that some of the youths involved were suspected to have links with prominent political figures, including Senator Al-Makura and former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
It further alleged that the action was intended to undermine the image of the state government and the people of Nasarawa State.
Meanwhile, eyewitness accounts have reportedly identified some of the alleged troublemakers as individuals wearing branded T-shirts bearing the inscription Renewed Hope Vanguard, a political organisation recently established and inaugurated by Al-Makura in Lafia.
The individuals were also reportedly heard chanting “IG Governor” during the rally, a development that has raised questions about the possible political undertones of the disruption.
The allegations have generated concerns over the growing divisions within the Nasarawa APC, particularly regarding party discipline, political loyalty and the responsibility of party leaders to control the activities of their supporters.
The state government has consequently urged security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those responsible and establish whether there were sponsors behind the alleged disruption.
It warned that anyone found culpable should be made to face the full consequences of the law.
The government also appealed to residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The incident has further exposed the need for reconciliation and stronger internal discipline within the ruling party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
However, the allegations linking Al-Makura to the disruption have not been independently established, and his response to the accusations was not contained in the information available.
