The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the party remains firmly in control of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the declaration when he received a high-powered delegation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), led by its Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, at the Government House in Ilorin.
The delegation included more than 10 former governors, former members of the National Assembly and former party executives, among them Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Ali Modu Sheriff, Adamu Aleiro, Abubakar Badaru, Danjuma Goje, Ibrahim Shema, Sani Yerima, Abdullahi Ganduje, Olusegun Mimiko, Hon. Dimeji Bankole and Hon. Olubunmi Ette.
AbdulRazaq congratulated Yari and other members of the delegation on their nomination into the PCC, describing the council as the highest organ of the presidential campaign.
He said their appointments reflected the party’s recognition of their capacities, experience and contributions to nation-building.
The governor also appreciated the PCC leadership for its visit to Kwara, insisting that the state remained a stronghold of the APC.
According to him, the party’s popularity in the state has remained strong since 2019, while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has continued to lose ground.
“Kwara is solidly behind APC. This is our stronghold, and our popularity remains unmatched. That has been consistent from 2019 until now. Nothing has changed, except that the PDP has continued to weaken,” he said.
The governor highlighted his administration’s efforts to address infrastructural deficits across critical sectors, particularly education, healthcare and the civil service.
He specifically cited the introduction of KwaraLEARN, a technology-driven teaching and learning initiative in public basic schools, as one of the administration’s notable achievements.
AbdulRazaq maintained that the people of the state were satisfied with his government’s performance, adding that the impact of its policies and programmes was evident in measurable progress across various sectors.
On the forthcoming governorship election, the governor expressed confidence in the APC candidate, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, describing his emergence as the party’s flagbearer as a positive development for the state.
He noted that Danladi and his running mate, Hon. Seun Ogunniyi, were serving members of the Kwara State House of Assembly with considerable knowledge of the state’s political landscape and governance structure.
The governor said their legislative experience positioned them to sustain the achievements of his administration, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the next election.
He added that continuity remained essential to consolidating the progress recorded by his government.
Following the meeting at the Government House, AbdulRazaq led the delegation to pay homage to the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR.
The governor expressed delight at the monarch’s disposition during the visit and thanked him for the warm reception, royal blessings and prayers for the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in the forthcoming elections.
