Alia to Wike: Benue Is Not Rivers, I’m Not Fubara

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against alleged political manoeuvres in Benue State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Alia declared that Benue was not Rivers State and that he was not Governor Siminalayi Fubara, amid reports of a political coalition involving key political figures in the state.

The governor’s position was conveyed by his Special Assistant on Social Media Communications, Comr. Asortar James Asortar, in a statement issued on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

The statement followed reports of an alleged political alliance, reportedly tagged the “Rainbow Coalition,” involving Wike, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

The reported coalition has drawn attention to the emerging political alignments in Benue State as political actors begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Alia’s remarks underscored his position on the political situation in Benue, with the governor drawing a distinction between the state’s political dynamics and the protracted political crisis in Rivers State involving Wike and his successor, Fubara.

However, further details of the governor’s statement, including any specific demands or actions directed at Wike and the other political figures, were not provided in the statement made available.
