The Benue State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, leaders of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Directors-General of Services and Administration (DGSAs), and local government treasurers to appear before it on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The invitation is aimed at addressing issues relating to local government administration in the state.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Assembly, Michael Zape Upaa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the statement, the affected officials are expected to appear before the lawmakers to respond to concerns regarding the administration and affairs of local governments across the state.
The Assembly warned that failure to honour the invitation could prompt it to invoke its constitutional powers to compel the officials to appear before the House.
The statement partly read: “The Benue State House of Assembly has invited the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the leadership of ALGON, that of DGSAs and Treasurers to appear before it on Tuesday, 13th October, 2026.
“The House further emphasised that failure to appear, the House will invoke its powers under the Constitution to secure their appearance.”
The development comes as the Assembly intensifies its oversight responsibilities over local government administration, with the lawmakers seeking explanations from key officials on matters affecting the running of local councils in the state.
