FG Releases CONTA for Non-Academic Staff of Federal Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic staff of all federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, covering the period from January to August 2026.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, who announced the release on Wednesday, said the payment was part of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen industrial harmony and ensure stability in the nation’s tertiary education system.

Alausa said the payment demonstrated the government’s recognition of the critical role played by both academic and non-academic staff in the effective functioning of tertiary institutions and the development of Nigeria’s human capital.

He said the release was also aimed at addressing legitimate welfare concerns, promoting industrial harmony and minimising disruptions to academic activities across federal tertiary institutions.

The minister noted that the announcement followed the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff on Monday.

According to him, the two payments reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to meeting its obligations to personnel across the tertiary education sector and strengthening institutions responsible for producing the skilled workforce required for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Alausa assured stakeholders that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to engage relevant unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues and promote a stable, productive and globally competitive tertiary education system.

He commended academic and non-academic staff, heads of institutions, unions and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and cooperation with the Federal Government.

The minister further reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing policies and initiatives that prioritise staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and improved learning outcomes.

He said the Federal Government, under President Tinubu, remained committed to fulfilling its obligations, addressing legitimate outstanding issues and sustaining reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education system in line with the human capital development objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
