Former students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, and other students from Bauchi State are set to benefit from a ₦200 million support fund committed by Dr. Yakubu Adamu, a governorship aspirant of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the state.
The initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to students of Bauchi State origin studying at ATBU, particularly in meeting registration fees and other academic-related expenses.
The fund, according to Adamu, was raised by his friends and associates and entrusted to him for the purpose of supporting students across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas.
Adamu, an alumnus of ATBU who obtained both his first and second degrees from the university, said the intervention was aimed at easing the financial burden faced by students and enabling them to concentrate on their education.
The ₦200 million commitment is expected to benefit students experiencing financial difficulties and reduce some of the economic barriers affecting their academic pursuits.
In a related development, Adamu also donated a Coaster bus to the ATBU community to improve transportation between the university’s Yelwa Main Campus and Gubi Campus along the Kano Road.
The bus is expected to ease transportation challenges faced by students and other members of the university community who commute between the two campuses.
The initiatives reflect Adamu’s stated emphasis on education, youth development and human capital investment, particularly through interventions aimed at addressing financial and logistical challenges confronting students.
The support also highlights the role of alumni and private initiatives in complementing institutional efforts to improve students’ welfare and access to education.
