Archbishop Kaigama Blesses New Site for St. Monica’s Pastoral Area Church in Nyanya

The Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Most Rev. Ignatius A. Kaigama, has blessed the site for the construction of a new church for St. Monica’s Pastoral Area, Nyanya, Abuja.

The blessing ceremony, held on Tuesday,
September 29, 2026, coincided with the Feast of the Archangels—Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael—and marked a significant milestone in the pastoral development of the Catholic community.

St. Monica’s Pastoral Area was created out of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Nyanya, and is under the pastoral care of Rev. Fr. Boniface Neibo.

The project is being undertaken with the support and commitment of members of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN), Abuja Archdiocese, led by Bro. Christian Ngwu, with Rev. Fr. Sebastian Sanni serving as Chaplain.

Speaking during the ceremony, Archbishop Kaigama commended the priest and parishioners for their commitment to the growth of the new pastoral area, while acknowledging the Charismatic Renewal for accepting the responsibility of building the church with enthusiasm and dedication.

He encouraged the faithful to remain committed to the project, describing the site blessing as the beginning of a new chapter in the history of St. Monica’s Pastoral Area.

The Archbishop also urged other church societies and organisations to emulate the example of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal by supporting church development projects, particularly in newly established pastoral areas, rural communities and disadvantaged locations.

He called on the faithful, both young and old, to look forward with hope to the completion of the church, where they will gather to celebrate the Holy Mass and deepen their Christian faith.

Archbishop Kaigama invoked the intercession of St. Monica and the Archangels—Michael, Gabriel and Raphael—for the success of the project and the continued spiritual growth of the pastoral area.

The occasion was described as a remarkable moment in the life of the community, signalling the beginning of a new phase in its pastoral and spiritual development.
