President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded his working vacation in France and departed Paris for Lagos, where he is expected to hold meetings with political leaders and associates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President’s aircraft is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, later on Tuesday, according to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 for the vacation, spending about a week in London before proceeding to Paris, where he combined private engagements with official meetings.
The Presidency said the decision to return to Nigeria through Lagos was partly to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who won the June 12, 1993 presidential election and remains a prominent figure in Nigeria’s democratic history.
As part of activities commemorating Abiola, Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a film on the late politician on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day. The event is scheduled to take place at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The President is also expected to remain in Lagos for several days to engage political leaders and associates as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” Onanuga said.
During his stay in France, Tinubu held discussions with business and political figures and attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
Among the business leaders he met was Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose business interests span media, digital services, entertainment and music.
On Monday, the President also met with Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Holdings, as part of his engagements in France.
A major development during the working vacation was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the proposed development of the Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside.
The proposed project also includes the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone, with the Presidency stating that DP World, a global ports and logistics company, plans to invest $7 billion in the seaport and economic zone.
After concluding his scheduled political engagements in Lagos, Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja to resume his official duties.
