The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its role in international peace and security efforts.
Musa stated this while attending the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, who led Nigeria’s delegation.
Following the opening session, the Defence Minister paid an operational visit to the Defence Section of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
In a statement signed by Leah Katung Babatunde, Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Defence, Musa received a comprehensive briefing from Nigeria’s Defence Attaché to the UN, Brigadier General EA Koleosho, on the section’s strategic activities and operational commitments.
The Minister commended Koleosho and his team for their professionalism, loyalty and dedication to advancing the ideals of the United Nations and the interests of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Musa also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to restoring and expanding Nigeria’s active participation in international peace and security initiatives.
He stressed that Nigeria remains committed to reinvigorating its participation in global peacekeeping operations as part of broader efforts to promote stability, security and peace around the world.
