Police Alert Over Planned Attacks on Schools, Worship Centres, NYSC Camps

The Nigeria Police Force has directed all its formations across the country to heighten security following intelligence suggesting that terrorist groups may be planning attacks on worship centres, schools, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps and other public facilities.

The directive was contained in an operational message reportedly issued by the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on September 13, 2026.

The communication was circulated to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in charge of Zones 1 to 17, Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as commanders of the Mobile Police, Counter-Terrorism and other specialised units.

According to the intelligence, security authorities have observed increased movement and mobilisation of suspected terrorist elements, raising concerns over possible coordinated attacks on vulnerable locations.

The police also reportedly received information about the movement of armed individuals from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State.
The development prompted the Force to direct commanders to adopt proactive measures and strengthen security around locations considered potential targets.

The operational message, referenced CB: 0900/FDPS/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL38/68, was issued by the Department of Operations and marked “Security General”, with instructions that it be treated as “Very Important.”

Police commanders were consequently directed to reinforce security around worship centres, educational institutions, NYSC orientation camps and other sensitive public facilities.

They were also urged to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid-response operations in areas considered vulnerable to terrorist activities.

The latest warning comes amid continuing security challenges in parts of the country, where attacks on communities and public infrastructure have heightened concerns among residents.

The police directive is understood to be part of efforts to prevent suspected terrorists from executing potential attacks by strengthening surveillance and security measures ahead of any incident.
