The Benue State Police Command has arrested 46 suspects allegedly linked to the obstruction of the convoy of former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during his visit to the state on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, September 9, saying investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Nwadiogbu also disclosed that the command was tracking other key persons allegedly connected to the incident.
The police commissioner warned against political intolerance and any actions capable of undermining peace, public safety and peaceful political participation in the state.
He urged political actors and their supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and respect the rights of others, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
FirmNews reports that the police investigation is expected to determine the level of involvement of those arrested, while the law should be allowed to take its course and peace and responsible political participation prioritised in the state.
