Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation, which took place on Monday, September 7, 2026, occurred while the troops were conducting a routine patrol along the axis.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops encountered the terrorists and responded decisively, forcing them to flee the area in disarray.
He said reinforcements were subsequently deployed to enable the troops clear the ambush site and conduct further exploitation of the surrounding areas.
Goni disclosed that troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging points and hideouts.
Items recovered from the camps and the area included a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs.
He said no casualty was recorded among the troops during the encounter, although some military vehicles sustained damage in the attack.
“Notwithstanding the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission,” he said.
The military spokesman said the operation demonstrated the resolve and fighting spirit of troops of Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorist elements freedom of action, disrupt their activities and protect communities across the theatre.
He added that the security situation within the area of responsibility remained calm but unpredictable, noting that troops continued to conduct aggressive patrols and other coordinated security operations to safeguard lives and property.
Goni urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, persons or activities to security agencies.
He stressed that timely information from residents remained critical to ongoing efforts to detect, disrupt and neutralise terrorist activities across the theatre.
