The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has been honoured with the prestigious Daily Times Heroes Award for his outstanding contributions to public service and national development.
Adeniyi received the award on September 3, 2026, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja as part of activities marking the centenary celebration of the Daily Times newspaper.
The event brought together prominent personalities from government, business, traditional institutions and other sectors to recognise individuals and organisations whose contributions have impacted Nigeria’s development.
Speaking after receiving the award, Adeniyi described the recognition as an encouragement to him and the entire Nigeria Customs Service to deepen their commitment to national service.
He said recognition for hard work should serve as motivation to achieve greater results.
“It’s very good when you do something, and you are recognised; this should be an inspiration to us to do much better,” Adeniyi said.
The Customs boss dedicated the award to officers and men of the NCS, commending them for their dedication, sacrifices and commitment to protecting the nation and supporting economic development.
Adeniyi said the Service under his leadership remains focused on improving revenue generation, facilitating legitimate trade and advancing Nigeria’s implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
He also stressed the importance of greater compliance by members of the public, noting that improved compliance would enable the Customs Service to perform its statutory responsibilities more effectively.
The award, he added, was not only a personal honour but also recognition of the collective efforts of the NCS and compliant Nigerians working to promote higher standards of public service.
