The public feud between Bashir El-Rufai and his elder brother, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has escalated, with Bashir issuing another strongly worded warning against the lawmaker on social media.
Bashir, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, made the statement on Saturday in a post on his X account while criticising Mohammed Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The latest development is part of an increasingly public disagreement between the two brothers, whose differences are believed to be connected, in part, to their contrasting political positions and activities in Kaduna State.
In one of his posts, Bashir wrote: “I will destroy you & climb my bed and sleep peacefully.”
The statement sparked reactions from social media users, with some appealing to Bashir to stop the public attacks and resolve the dispute privately.
Politician Uche Rochas was among those who cautioned Bashir against threatening his brother, warning that the continued public confrontation could damage the reputation of the El-Rufai family.
Rochas wrote: “If you destroy your brother, no one will see you as a hero. The more you try to destroy him, the more you destroy yourself and drag your family’s name through the mud.”
He added: “If you need someone to talk to, I am here.”
Responding, Bashir said, “Sorry sir. Had to be said.”
Another social media user, Dr Ibrahim Yaji, also criticised Bashir’s conduct, questioning his decision to publicly attack a member of his family.
Yaji wrote: “I kept telling my friend earlier that the joke is on Bashir. I can never trust anybody who can do this to his own blood.”
He added: “Even if my sibling kills my child, I won’t destroy him like this. No, my parents didn’t bring us up this way.”
Bashir responded: “That’s you o. And I’m sure you had a good brother.”
The latest confrontation comes after Bashir previously accused his elder brother of drug abuse in another social media post, further intensifying the dispute.
Mohammed Bello, who is also active in politics, had not publicly responded to the latest threat as of the time of filing this report.
The brothers’ public disagreement has continued to attract significant attention online, largely because of their family relationship and their connection to Nasir El-Rufai, a former Kaduna governor and prominent political figure.
The development has also prompted calls from social media users for both brothers to exercise restraint and resolve their differences away from the public arena.
