Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists and recovered two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles during an encounter with terrorists in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation, according to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026, regarding the movement of terrorists escorting hundreds of rustled cattle through the Maikujera general area of Rabah LGA.Danja said troops of Sector 2 were immediately deployed to intercept the terrorists.
He explained that while advancing towards the identified location, the troops came under an ambush by the terrorists but responded with superior firepower, neutralising two of the attackers.
According to him, the remaining terrorists fled into the surrounding bushes as troops overpowered their position.
“Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists,” the statement said.
The military spokesperson added that the rustled cattle dispersed into the surrounding bushes during the firefight, noting that troops, in collaboration with local vigilantes, were continuing efforts to locate and recover the livestock.
Danja said the general area remained calm and stable as troops maintained an aggressive presence and continued surveillance to prevent further terrorist activities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustaining operational pressure against terrorist and criminal elements while protecting lives and property across the Joint Operations Area.
