Fake AI Video: DHQ Reaffirms Military’s Political Neutrality

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as fake an artificial intelligence-generated video purportedly showing the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, making statements suggesting partisan political support.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the video did not emanate from the CDS and that the statements attributed to him were false.

Uba described the video as a product of artificial intelligence manipulation, allegedly created to deceive the public, misrepresent the position of the CDS and bring the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution, committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation,” the statement said.

The Defence Headquarters condemned what it described as the deliberate creation and circulation of the fabricated video and warned those responsible, as well as individuals knowingly amplifying the material, to desist immediately.

It urged members of the public to disregard the video and obtain information concerning the military only through official Defence Headquarters channels.

The DHQ said its official communication platforms include Facebook — Defence Headquarters Nigeria; X — DHQNigeria; Instagram — DefenceHQ; WhatsApp — Defence Headquarters Nigeria; and YouTube — DefenceTV-Nigeria.

The statement was dated August 27, 2026, and signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information.
