The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has paid a farewell visit to the President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, as his four-year tenure at the regional body comes to an end.
Touray was received by Ouattara yesterday in Abidjan, where he expressed appreciation for the Ivorian President’s support and guidance throughout his tenure.
The ECOWAS Commission President, whose four-year term ended in July 2026, commended Ouattara for his “constant and valuable support” to the regional organisation.
He also praised the Ivorian government and people for their commitment to regional integration and efforts to advance the objectives of ECOWAS.
Reflecting on his tenure, Touray said the Commission had operated amid major political, economic, social and security challenges confronting the West African region.
He noted that the Commission’s efforts to address the challenges were made possible by the support and guidance of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, particularly President Ouattara.
Touray’s visit provided an opportunity to acknowledge the cooperation of Côte d’Ivoire and its leadership during his tenure while underscoring the importance of continued regional solidarity in addressing West Africa’s challenges.
