FG Has No Immediate Plans to Increase Electricity Tariffs – Power Minister

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government has no immediate plans to increase electricity tariffs beyond the current rates.

Speaking on the administration’s power sector agenda, Tegbe said the government’s priority is not a tariff hike but improving electricity service delivery, expanding universal metering and ensuring that consumers pay only for the electricity they actually use.

“There is no policy by this administration to increase electricity tariffs beyond its current level. Our priority is not tariff increase in the immediate term,” the minister said.

He added that the Federal Government would continue to explore additional measures to protect vulnerable electricity consumers while strengthening the financial sustainability of the power sector.

According to him, the ongoing reforms are focused on practical implementation rather than rhetoric, stressing that success would be measured by tangible improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians.

“Resetting the sector is not about buzzwords. It is about execution, discipline, coordination and measurable outcomes. We will measure our outcomes by improvements experienced in the daily lives of Nigerians,” Tegbe stated.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s long-term vision of building a reliable, competitive, sustainable and inclusive electricity sector capable of driving economic growth and attracting investment.

“Our ambition is clear: reliable electricity that powers our homes, competitive electricity that powers our industries, sustainable electricity that attracts investment, and inclusive electricity that reaches every Nigerian,” he added.
