The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched a fully electronic registration platform for capital market services, moving key regulatory processes online as part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s capital market.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commission said the new e-Registration platform, hosted on its ePortal, marks a major milestone in its digital transformation agenda and its push for a technology-driven regulatory system.
According to the SEC, Capital Market Operators (CMOs) can now complete designated registration processes entirely online. This covers application submission, regulatory review, approvals, and notification of decisions — removing manual processing for services in the first phase.
The Commission said the initiative will cut red tape, reduce administrative delays, shorten processing times, and give applicants real-time visibility on the status of their applications.
It added that the shift to digital will also boost operational efficiency and strengthen oversight through standardized workflows, electronic documentation, secure record keeping, and better audit trails.
_“The new platform represents a major step towards creating a seamless digital regulatory ecosystem that enhances operational efficiency while strengthening regulatory effectiveness,”_ the SEC stated.
The regulator said the e-Registration platform aligns with its goal of leveraging technology to improve market efficiency, enhance the ease of doing business, and deliver better services to stakeholders.
Beyond speed, the SEC noted the platform will improve the integrity of regulatory processes by reducing delays linked to paper documentation and improving the quality of data for decision-making.
It added that the digital system will also provide a stronger base for regulatory analytics and future innovations aimed at improving market oversight.
The Commission said implementation will be done in phases to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining stability.
The current phase covers post-registration services for existing CMOs only Applications for new entrants into the Nigerian capital market are not yet included.
_“The commencement of electronic processing for new registration applications will be announced at a later date,”_ the SEC clarified.
The Commission urged all CMOs to familiarize themselves with the new platform and meet implementation timelines for a seamless transition.
The SEC said the rollout is part of its broader modernization agenda to improve regulatory efficiency, strengthen market infrastructure, enhance transparency, and support the growth, resilience, and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s capital market.
It reaffirmed its commitment to reforms that promote innovation, improve service delivery, and reinforce investor confidence.
