Youth Meets Experience: Engr. Zakari Joins Bwacha on 2027 Taraba Ticket

When Senator Emmanuel Bwacha announced his deputy for the 2027 Taraba governorship race, he did more than fill a slot on the ticket. He made a statement.

His choice, Engr. Aminu Zakari a civil engineer and procurement expert from Jalingo LGA.

In a political season often dominated by familiar names and godfather politics, Bwacha’s pick has shifted the conversation in Taraba. The question on the streets of Jalingo, Wukari and Gembu is no longer just “who is running,” but “who is Engr. Aminu Zakari?”

Zakari is not a career politician. For the past 14 years, he has been behind the scenes at the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, in Abuja.

There, he cut his teeth on procurement audits, contract oversight, due process compliance and project monitoring. It is the kind of work that rarely makes headlines, but determines whether government money actually delivers roads, schools and hospitals.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering, two Master’s degrees, and a stack of professional certifications. Colleagues describe him as meticulous, data-driven, and allergic to shortcuts.

The Credentials

What sets Zakari apart in Taraba’s political space is his professional pedigree. He is a Fellow and member of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and a member of Nigerian Institute of Management.

Engr. Zakari is also a member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria, Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Procurement Engineers

In plain terms engineering, management, and procurement — the three areas where most state governments leak money.

Supporters argue that is exactly why Bwacha picked him.

Why This Pick Matters

Taraba’s challenges in 2027 will not be solved by rhetoric alone. Contract inflation, abandoned projects, and weak oversight have defined governance debates for years.

By pairing himself with Zakari, Bwacha is signaling a ticket built around technical competence and accountability.

Zakari brings the engineering background to supervise projects. He brings the procurement expertise to block leakages. He brings the administrative experience to run systems.

“He represents the new Taraba,” a senior party chieftain said. “Young, qualified, and not indebted to the old ways of doing things.”

The Road Ahead

At 2027, Zakari will be one of the youngest deputy governorship candidates in the state’s history. That youth factor matters in a state with a large population of first-time voters demanding jobs, transparency and results.

Whether that translates to votes remains to be seen. But for now, Bwacha’s gamble is clear: trade political name recognition for professional credibility.

As campaign drums begin to beat across the 16 LGAs, one name will keep coming up in strategy meetings and town hall debates — Engr. Aminu Zakari*.

The push for a “Greater Taraba” has a new face. And this time, it wears a hard hat and carries an audit report.
